HUNDREDS turned up for an evening filled with Chinese pride at a dinner reception held to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the founding of China last night at Rizqun International Hotel.
Hosted by Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam, Zheng Xianglin, the evening commenced upon the arrival of the guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Education, who was accompanied by his spouse.
Both the Brunei and Chinese national anthems were played before Zheng Xianglin delivered his welcome address.
He highlighted the 23 years of Brunei-China diplomatic ties.
“Guided by the principle of mutual respect, understanding and trust between our two countries, the friendship between our two peoples are deepening,” he said.
The evening continued with a cake-cutting ceremony with the ambassador and the guest of honour, and a presentation of a memento for the minister.
This was later carried with traditional Chinese performances by Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait, whilst guests enjoyed their dinner.
