PEHIN Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Development is currently attending the 5th Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Urban Development (5th APMCHUD) which is being held from November 3-5 in Seoul, Korea.
The minister is accompanied by the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development, Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, the Commissioner of Town and Country Planning, Awang Shahrom bin Haji Suhaimi and senior officers from the Ministry of Development.
The Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Urban Development provides a setting to share information and issues related to poverty, gender inequality, environmental pollution and natural disasters from a housing and urban policy perspective.
With the theme, “Equal Opportunity for Sustainable Development”, the 5th APMCHUD promotes sustainable housing and urban development for human settlements in the Asia-Pacific region, aiming to address the challenges of housing and urbanisation in the Asia and Pacific and to find feasible solutions.
The 5th APMCHUD is attended by Ministers concerned with housing and urban developments from 68 Asia-Pacific member nations, including Brunei Darussalam. The conference comprises Plenary Meetings, Working Group Sessions and will be concluded with a Ministerial Roundtable Meeting.
The issues in the 5th APMCHUD are focused on urban regeneration and rehabilitation, upgrading of slum and informal settlements, urban development focused on natural and climate change disasters and also issues of financing (local and international) for sustainable housing.
