“BRUNEI and Germany have been partners in many global commitments and it could be seen during the recent United Nations (UN) Climate Summit in New York and 69th UN General Assembly where both countries shared identical views on a broad range of global issues.”
This was highlighted by Roland Grafe, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Brunei Darussalam, during a reception for the 23rd Anniversary of the Day of German Unity last night at the Indera Samudra Hall of The Empire Hotel & Country Club.
The ambassador added that the European Union (EU) and Asean had agreed to further develop their relations in building a strategic partnership at the last joint ministerial meeting held in Myanmar July this year. The ambassador hoped that the partnership will add the necessary political dimension to the cooperation and in this regard, Brunei and Germany share the conviction that a genuine political perspective can strengthen Asean internally and to ensure the Asean community retains its centrality.
The guest of honour at the event was Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
His spouse, Datin Hjh Rossnah bte Pehin Datu Indera Sugara Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Johari also attended the event.
A cake cutting ceremony was also held during the reception last night.
Distinguished guests also had the opportunity to witness the latest technological innovations from Germany with a selection of luxury car brands – including Mercedes, BMW and Audi.
