WITH the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, three Ministry of Defence (MinDef) scholars have been granted scholarship extensions to further their studies.
A signing ceremony for the scholarship extensions was held at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies with the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa bin Hj Sirat, as the guest of honour.
Also in attendance were the Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Yussof bin Hj Abdul Rahman, who signed the agreement on behalf of RBAF, and Permanent Secretary (Adminis-tration and Finance) at the Ministry of Defence, Datin Paduka Hjh Suriyah binti Hj Umar, who signed on behalf of MinDef, as well as Defence Executive Committee members, MinDef officers, invited guests, the scholars and their family members.
This year, two recipients of the Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Scholarship – Hj Muhd Hazwan bin Hj Muhd Azani and Hjh Hamizah binti Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Nor – and one Royal Brunei Armed Forces Scholarship reci-pient, Nurbazilah binti Hj Jamaludin, were granted their extensions to further their studies.
Hj Muhd Hazwan has successfully completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at University Col-lege London with Upper Second Class Honours. He will next pursue a Master’s degree in Management, Organisations and Governance for a year at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The other Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces scholar, Hjh Hamizah, has successfully completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering with First Class Honours. Following this, she will pursue a Master’s degree in Bioengineering – Biomaterials Stream for a year at the Im-perial College London.
Meanwhile, Royal Brunei Armed Forces scholar Nurbazilah has successfully com-pleted her ‘A’ Levels and gained top grades at the Cardiff Sixth Form College. She will pursue a degree in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at LSE for three years.
To date, a total of 26 students have been granted scholarship extensions under MinDef to further their education.
Twelve have been chosen to serve under RBAF as military officers and 14 to serve under MinDef as civilian officers.
