BRUNEI-Muara completed a perfect sweep in the 400m women’s event with national athlete Maziah Mahusin storming to the gold at the Brunei Track and Field Open Championship at Tutong Sports Complex yesterday.
The London Olympics competitor recorded a time of 1:00:70 with team-mates Hannah May Jamal Hashim further back with 1:05:70 in second place with Christine Wong Vun San in third (1:10:15).
Maziah also bagged bronze in the 4x400m event.
Jacobus Leuwol of Indonesia claimed gold in the 400m men’s event with 50:64s.
His compatriot Dedi Prawira Sahulatta took silver (51:90) while Sports School’s Md Ammar Safwan bin Zaidin won bronze (53:41).
Sri Lanka won the women’s long jump and the men’s 400m hurdles events comfortably.
NCD Priyadarshani set a distance of 5.9m to claim gold while Kuala Belait’s How Hung Xin finished second with a distance of 4.19m.
Nurul Khairunnisa bt Rozaimi of Tutong was in third with 3.57m.
Aravinda Chatthuranga was the only competitor to cross the finishing line under the minute mark with 0:53.53.
Axis PJ’s Hardil bin Harun settled for silver with a time of 1:02:81 while Kuala Belait’s Barry Freddie Ak Stephen Nyuak collected the bronze (1:04:63).
Hong Kong’s Chan Ka Sin set a distance of 5.43m to win gold in the long jump event in the girls’ juniors.
Sports School’s Dk Siti Nur Hazidah binti Pg Jamaluddin grabbed silver with a distance of 3.45m. Sakinah binti Sikin of Tutong won bronze with a distance of 3.28m.
Of the 12 events on offer, with the 100m events yet to start, Kuala Belait registered seven podium finishes including a victory in the Men Discus which was won by Mohamad Adenin bin Bolhan with a distance of 35.43m. Brunei Muara’s Hj Muhd Nur Zul Ishamuddin claimed silver with a distance of 29.69m while Temburong’s Mohd Nazri Hj Shari settled for bronze with 27.26m.
Salesnella Gabi of Sabah won the 800m women with a time of 2:32.81. Kuala Belait’s Leong Sheo Yee took silver while Santa Monica’s Norazemah Aliakbar claimed bronze.
Sports School had a one-two finish in the podium in the 400m boys junior with Md Muiz Rafi’uddin Abd Rahim winning gold and Abdul Aqil bin Abd Kadir taking silver. James of Kuala Belait settled for bronze with a time of 59.17.
