OFFICERS from the Enforcement Section of the Royal Brunei Customs and Excise Department recently busted several sites believed to be storage for contraband, hauling 316 bottles of alcoholic beverages, 31 cartons of cigarettes and several packets of chicken tail cuts in an operation targeting houses and abandoned cars in Kampung Ayer.
The operation was carried out at several rented houses and under jetties in Kg Setia.
Bottles of booze and cartons of cigarettes were hidden either inside a used freezer or under the flooring at the traditional Kampung Ayer housing.
A local man, in his 30s, is being investigated.
Prior to this, another location in Kg Setia was raided, involving three abandoned cars used as a makeshift storage for undeclared cigarettes as well as cases of booze bottles and cans.
The arrests and raids were carried out based on continuous monitoring by officers from the Enforcement Unit of the Royal Brunei Customs and Excise Department.
The department thanked the public for the tip-off, which led to the raid, and urged people to continue giving information on suspicious activities by calling hotline 8714422 or 2382422.
