MARIA Grace Koh or EIA ushered in the New Year by achieving yet another impressive feat in her music career. She received news that she was selected as the official hostess for the 19th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) to be held from July 10 – 19 in Long Beach, California themed “Hollywood at the Beach!”
Each year, a past contestant is selected from many applicants to be the official hostess for the next World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA). This year, Maria becomes the first individual from Brunei Darussalam to be chosen to host the international event.
Maria Koh in an interview said, “When I found out, I was thrilled and excited. I can’t believe I got chosen to fill the spot of hostess at such an event. It’s an honour and such a privilege to be selected to host WCOPA and furthermore be the first Bruneian to do so. I feel this is an opportunity for me to represent the nation and help promote Brunei in the international performing arts world to reach a wider audience base using the vast coverage the event will have.”
She added, “This will be my third time returning to WCOPA after two years of competing and I absolutely cannot wait to work with the WCOPA committee and the whole team at Long Beach. They are all very professional and welcoming and I’m sure working with them will be both a learning experience and a great opportunity to develop myself.”
On the preparations, she said, “I will be preparing for my hostess position by doing a lot of research on the 50 over countries that will be participating as well as other major events and how they are hosted.”
The former national swimmer turned singer also said, “I would like to take the opportunity to thank WCOPA for choosing me as the hostess for 2015, and our National Director, Jeffrey Cadayong, for pushing me to secure the spot. Team Brunei for WCOPA 2015 has grown in numbers compared to the previous years and this year I think it’s safe to say that we are bringing another strong team of eager young artistes with raw talent that should be shared with the world.”
As for her music career, Maria said, “Exciting times are ahead! I have things lined up to look forward to and I will also be releasing my next single. ‘That’s the Way’ (latest release) has received great reviews and is now on YouTube and I want to thank everyone for their endless support.”
Besides being an accomplished singer, Maria can play the piano, violin, flute, drums and is a seasoned dancer.
Maria just completed her studies at LaSalle College of the Arts and graduated with a BA First Class Honours in Performing Arts – Music and Vocals.
