FOLLOWING the success of ‘Hello World’ two years ago, Maria Grace Koh or EIA, the local singing sensation will debut her new song ‘That’s The Way’ on iTunes on October 25, 2014.
A special private preview of the song which was recorded in Los Angeles, United States was held on Monday night at The Brunei Hotel. The event was supported by The Brunei Hotel and the banner was sponsored by Cityneon.
EIA’s latest song, ‘That’s The Way’, has a really upbeat and R&B feel, which is totally different from ‘Hello World’.
The music and lyrics of the song were written by EIA, taking inspiration from her experience.
In an interview with the Bulletin, she said, “I am inspired by anything and everything – life experience, observations … you name it. Listening to my songs is basically like reading my diary, except in coding. Each song has its own unique vibe. I like writing songs that people can easily relate to, and most of all … sing!”
On ‘That’s The Way’, she said, “The song has a very chilled out, hip feel to it with beats that make you want to nod your head too. It’s pop with some R&B soul vibes. While ‘Hello World’ is basically about going through a hard time in your life … You’ll feel it when listening to it. It’s also a very chilled out song. I wrote this when I was 15.”
The song was recorded in Hollywood a few months ago.
Describing the experience, she said, “It was definitely an eye-opener. People there are so professional and they carry an impressive line of clients who have made it big time in the industry. I am working with the CEO and one of the producers of Indasoul Records, Marc ‘M Doc’ Williams who has worked with people like Madonna, Kelly Rowland, Jordin Sparks to name a few, as well as C-Ray who has worked with EMI Publishing and K-Ci & Jojo. They have been the most amazing team to work with on my recordings, and are professionals in the field who have gained much respect within the industry.”
EIA also showcased another two new songs which will be released at a later date. ‘Take It Slow’ is more soulful and jazzy. She said, “I wanted this song to be fun and something people could dance and snap to.”
‘I Can Do Anything’, she explained “is probably my most rock-ish song in this batch. It’s a very warrior song, speaking about how you can overcome obstacles and people who may look down on you in your area of work. You can feel the ‘aggressiveness’ in the song, and I also wanted to keep the listener’s mind excited while anticipating the ‘hits’ and rhythmic changes. Something for my fellow musicians out there!”
Speaking on the preview event, Maria said, “It was nerve-racking and also extremely exhilarating having people listen to my songs in such close proximity, ready to give feedback and to be able to see their facial expressions. I am so happy that everything was well received!”
About the target for the song, she hoped that the songs will be a hit in Brunei Darussalam and also internationally. She said, “I want to hit it locally, regionally and eventually internationally, too. Go hard or go home!”
Members of the public can purchase the new single ‘That’s The Way’ on October 25 on iTunes by searching ‘Eia That’s The Way’ as well as the previous ‘Hello World’.
