A LOCAL man who pleaded guilty to stealing his ex-wife’s gold jewellery to pay off accumulated debts will learn his fate in two weeks.
At the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Magistrate Azrimah Rahman fixed November 20 to pass sentence on 25-year-old Mohammad Syazlan bin Yunus.
DPP Dk Hazirah’s facts of the case stated that in April, the defendant had been residing with the victim, who was his then wife, at Kampong Mulaut in Jalan Kilanas.
The defendant stole a gold bracelet, two gold rings, a pair of gold earrings and a gold necklace from a drawer in the bedroom. He later sold them off and used the money to pay off his debts.
Realising the items missing, the victim confronted the victim, who claimed the jewellery was being kept by his mother.
When the defendant did not return the items, the victim lodged a police report. The defendant and the victim are currently undergoing divorce proceedings.
