A 33-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment by the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday for stealing $30,000 donation money belonging to the Women’s Council.
Jushree Adee Putra bin Hj Julaihi was also ordered to compensate $10,000 of the unrecovered money within a three-month grace period or risk serving another five months’ jail in default.
Magistrate Hajah Ervy Rahman said the aggravating factor was that the defendant had breached the trust of a family member, who shared a house with the defendant. He had broken into the strongroom using a key he found in the master bedroom hoping to steal something and found the money in an envelope.
There was also no evidence to support that the defendant had given money to his wife and children to buy gadgets as he claimed, the court said.
The court took into account mitigating factors where the defendant pleaded guilty mid-trial and saved the court from having a full trial.
