A LOCAL, 31, was handed a nine-month jail sentence by the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday after changing his plea to guilty to stealing a VVIP car.
Hairul Nazri bin Haji Mahamadan stole a Mercedes Benz ML 63 at the Jati Transport workshop at about 7.30pm on December 3, 2013.
DPP Hjh Rozaimah Rahman informed Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil that the defendant was driving along the Beribi area with a friend when his car broke down that night. He stopped along the roadside and, without his friend’s knowledge, entered the said workshop after noticing the gate was unlocked.
Upon realising the VVIP’s car had the key in the ignition, he took the car, picked up his friend and sent him home in Kota Batu.
Ten minutes later, staff at Jati Transport discovered the missing car and checked the CCTV footage immediately.
The police were informed promptly.
That same night, the defendant returned to Jati Transport with the car and was arrested by the police.
The defendant said he came back to return the car and collect his own vehicle.
