A 43-YEAR-OLD local Chinese man was fined $6,400, in default six months’ jail, after pleading guilty to possession of smuggled cigarettes and alcohol.
Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina PD Ustaz Hj Badaruddin ordered for Yeo Teng Leong’s vehicle to be confiscated.
Yeo was stopped by Customs officers at Jalan Junjungan at about 9.11pm on June 19.
Officers found 13 cartons of cigarettes and 12 bottles of whisky in a plastic bag in the boot of the vehicle.
The defendant said the bootleg belonged to a friend who works at the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd and that he was only acting as a delivery man for the friend who lives in Seria. He claimed the items were bought from a man at Jalan Junjungan.
