BUKIT MERTAJAM (Bernama) – The police exposed a fake passport syndicate and arrested seven foreign men in a raid on a house in Bayan Baru at 12.50am yesterday.
Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the seven men comprising four Bangladeshis, two Indonesians and a Myanmar national had used a room to produce the fake passports.
“We found 17 fake international passports including from Bangladesh, Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar, Malaysian Immigration Department stamp, the embassies stamp and passport making equipment,” he told a press conference yesterday
The police also seized RM715, believed to be proceeds from producing the fake passports.
Abdul Rahim said police believed the syndicate, which began operating from the house since early this year, moved from one location to another to avoid detection.
“We believe that the seven men working at restaurants and cafes in Bayan Baru had assisted in making the fake passports before selling them to other parties.”
