A 42-YEAR-OLD Malaysian was jailed 20 months after he pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court in the capital yesterday to two counts of possession of smuggled cigarettes.
DPP Dk Hazirah Pg Yusof informed Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil that the defendant Rani bin Marali was attempting to smuggle in 27 cartons of cigarettes in his car at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at about 9pm on August 5.
He was caught during a routine Customs inspection at the border when he said he had nothing to declare.
On September 8 at about 4.15pm, again he was caught, this time with 103 cartons of undeclared cigarettes in his car at the Kuala Lurah Control Post.
