A MALAYSIAN Chinese national was fined $1,300 or serve four months’ jail in default after pleading guilty before the Kuala Belait Magistrate’s court to possessing undeclared liquors and beers.
Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana Haji Abd Rahman ordered the booze to be forfeited to the state and released the defendant’s car. Thirty-year-old Su Yeong Seng arrived from Miri at the Sungai Tujoh control post in his BMW at about 2.55pm on December 22. He declared only 12 cans of beer in the rear trunk of his car. However, Customs border control officials discovered 12 bottles of liquors and 84 cans of beers during an inspection.
The defendant then admitted to buying the booze at E-Mart Miri for RM400 to RM500 using his father’s car.
