THE Malaysian Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato’ Sri Rohani binti Abdul Karim, yesterday conducted a visit to the Welfare Home Complex (Rumah Kebajikan), Community Development Department (JAPEM) in Kampong Belimbing, Subok.
Present to welcome the Malaysian delegation for their visit to various assets of JAPEM was Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
During the visit, the delegation from Malaysia was given a briefing on the background of the Welfare Home Complex and its functions.
The briefing was presented by Pengiran Mahdi bin Pengiran Haji Md Salleh, Assistant Director of JAPEM.
He also briefed the delegation about the activities and programmes that were carried out for the residents of the complex.
The complex is a rehabilitation centre to help those who have social problems whether intentionally or influenced.
The complex is also home to offer protection for victims of these problems to recover. Among the residents of the complex include young children, youths and adults.
Throughout their stay, the residents will be guided through various programmes which focus on religious, counselling, social and vocational.
At the same time, they will also be given the opportunity to continue their academic studies at their respective schools.
Later that day, the delegation continued their visit to the Brunei-Muara District’s Pusat Bahagia in Kampong Pulaie.
Pusat Bahagia is responsible for providing training for people with special needs (OBK), which also includes vocational training to provide opportunities for them to get a job.
To date, a total of 54 former trainees of Pusat Bahagia from across the nation are now recruited in various employment sectors and another 94 trainees are still undergoing industrial training in various governmental and non-governmental sectors.
Accompanying the minister was Puan Haznah Md Hashim, Deputy High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam. Dato’ Sabariah binti Hassan, Secretary General of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, also participated in the visit.
