THE Majlis Ilmu (Knowledge Convention) 2014 will be highlighting ‘Science and Technology’ featuring the importance of the role of science and technology in all aspects of life, including provision of facilities and infrastructure in enhancing the quality of life of the people in the country.
These were announced during a press conference by Dato Paduka Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) at the Ministry of Development (MoD) at the Dewan Betabur of MoD yesterday.
The Knowledge Convention is an annual event held in commemoration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s birthday celebration and this year it will take place from October 28 to November 4 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas. It will be organised by the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Development.
This year’s Knowledge Convention will have a theme of “Sains dan Teknologi Pemangkin Pembangunan dan Meningkatkan Kualiti Kehidupan Ummah”.
“Knowledge Convention 2014 will be describing, discussing and showcasing the field of science and technology in the Islamic ethical perspective and Syariah in science and technology, achievement of previous Islamic scientists, applying science and technology in development and enhancing the quality of life of the Ummah as well as latest discoveries in science and innovation,” said Dato Paduka Haji Suhaimi.
He also added there will be several events during the Knowledge Convention 2014 including a premier talk, premier forum, symposiums, as well as an exhibition.
“The symposium will see the presentation of working papers by local and foreign experts, as each of them will be exploring aspects on the importance of Islamic values in the application of science and technology and roles of science and latest technology and innovation in enhancing the quality of life of the Ummah,” he added.
He also mentioned that the Knowledge Convention 2014 exhibition will be showcasing materials that are in line with the theme including national policies in environmental protection, provision on clean and safe drinking water, design and materials that are environmentally friendly, energy savings in buildings as well as informal learning through interactive exhibits (4D) for visitors, especially children and primary school students so as to develop and kindle their interest in science and mathematics.
Following the press conference, the Knowledge Convention 2014 promotional posters were distributed to representatives of government ministries, departments and agencies by Dato Paduka Haji Suhaimi.
Also in attendance during the press conference were Dato Paduka Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji A Rashid, Permanent Secretary (Law and Welfare) at the Prime Minister’s Office; Haji Muhammad Lutfi bin Haji Abdullah, Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the MoD and Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MoD.
