A CHARITY campaign aimed at beautifying the areas of the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien (OAS) Mosque was held yesterday.
The campaign led by Ustaz Haji Abd Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Acting Director of Mosque Affairs at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), had staff and trainees from the National Service Programme, the Maintenance and Building Section of the Mosque Affairs Department at MoRA and the OAS Mosque Committee, participating in the event.
The campaign included repainting the mosque fence and cleaning its premises.
Apart from maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of the mosque, the event also helped foster and cultivate the spirit of cooperation between those involved and the community.
The mosque was built from 1954 to 1958 and was named after the 28th Sultan of Brunei.
It is surrounded by an artificial lagoon that serves as a reflecting pool. The mosque with its 44-metre high minaret, is the tallest building in the centre of the capital.
It is also one of the most popular tourist spots visited by tourists.
