THE capital was a riot of colour last Sunday as various associations, government and non-government organisations were involved in the decorated floats procession held as part of the official opening of the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas.

Not missing out on the event was the Tutong District. Selected members from the Tutong community showcased their very own float which was themed ‘Gagasan Masyarakat Makmur Daerah Tutong’, roughly translated as ‘peace and prosperous community in Tutong District’. The float was designed by Muhammad Amir bin Haji Umarali.

Muhammad Amir explained that the float’s design incorporated three elements: history, progress and vision – which fit the theme of the float’s decoration, reflecting a prosperous community supportive of the nation’s Vision 2035.

Included in the float decoration were historical characters shown by the shape of ‘bangkar’ – a river transportation platform from the old days which was used to carry wedding entourages through the river. The platform was made from natural materials such as bamboo, among others.

Decorations also displayed the progress and prosperity of the Tutong community in various areas such as the religious, education, cultural and economy sectors under the benevolent leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The Tutong community’s participation in the floats procession last Sunday was led by Tutong District Officer Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohammad Hussain. Two members from the Tutong District Volunteers Group (SUKA) and two officers from the Tutong District Office were also involved in the event.

Muhammad Amir, commenting on the event, described it as “a grand event of historical proportions which will be long remembered by the people”.

He also took the opportunity – on behalf of the Tutong community and those involved in the construction of the decorated vehicle – to congratulate His Majesty on the occasion of his Golden Jubilee and pray for the monarch’s continued good health and lasting ruling of Brunei Darussalam.
