THE Belait District welcomed the Hijrah year 1436 yesterday by organising charitable activities at mosques around the district, with Zainab Mosque of Lumut as the focal point.
Attending the event were guest of honour Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Hj Asminan bin Hj Chuchu, the Belait District Head Religious Officer as the chairman of the event.
The event started with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa and continued with a Takzirah (talk) about the importance of mosques’ cleanliness by Zulkifli bin Zakaria.
The talk focussed on the significance of hygiene and cleanliness in Islam, with particular attention to mosques as centres for religious activities and congregations.
The event then continued with a tree planting ceremony, followed by placements of cleanliness signboards around the Zainab Mosque.
The guest of honour then officiated the cleaning campaign, which was held simultaneously at all mosques, Suraus and Balai Ibadat around the district.
Organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the event aimed to enliven Brunei Darussalam’s mosques and to instil a sense of teamwork amongst mosque officers, Mosque Takmir Committee, mosque congregants and the local community towards keeping mosques clean and tidy.
