FOR the first time in Brunei, Luminox is bringing in a giant model of the Lynx Mark II spacecraft for the week-long Luminox “Space and Time Converge” Exhibition at The Mall, Gadong from October 25 to November 2.
Measuring at a length of six metres, a wingspan of five metres and five metres in height, the Lynx Mark II spacecraft is currently under development for building commercially-viable spacecraft by USA-based private rocket engine and spaceflight development company, XCOR Space Expeditions.
This two-seat, piloted spacecraft will take consumers on a suborbital flight to 103km above the earth’s atmosphere, on the edge of space, and then return safely to a landing at the take-off runway.
Luminox has been chosen to be the official timepiece for the pilots of XCOR Space Expeditions, expanding into the fourth transportation dimension of mankind – “Space”, marking a milestone progression beyond its existing Land, Sea and Air collection of Swiss-made adventure watches, thereby coinciding with the progression of human transportation.
“The new Luminox Space Series GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) watches are made for pilots and passengers of the Lynx Mark II spacecraft by XCOR. In the pitch black environment of space, only Luminox’s proprietary Luminox Light Technology, which provides continuous self-illumination in the watch for 25 years without the need for any light source, will allow an astronaut to read the time,” said a press statement from Luminox.
Members of the public are invited to visit the exhibition during this period and enjoy special privileges on purchases of Luminox watches.
Exclusively for BIBD Credit/Debit cardmembers, with every Luminox purchased, they will receive a free Luminox Adventure Knife and take part in a lucky draw to win a Luminox watch.
In addition, Luminox Space “astronaut” mascots will go to different parts of Brunei to mingle with members of the public and entice them to be amongst Brunei’s pioneering space travellers on the Lynx Mark II spacecraft by XCOR.
The mascots will invite members of the public to pose for photographs which will be posted on Luminox Brunei’s social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram.
Bruneians who are interested to find out more about how to become a pioneering space traveller on the Lynx Mark II spacecraft by XCOR are welcomed to enquire about it at the Luminox “Space and Time Converge” Exhibition during this period.
Details such as the flight path, construction of the space shuttle as well as the various space training programmes will all be available at the exhibition.
The Luminox “Space and Time Converge” Exhibition in Brunei will mark the final display in Southeast Asia of the giant model of the Lynx Mark II spacecraft by XCOR.
Previously, the giant model of the Lynx Mark II spacecraft was displayed at Shaw House in Singapore from August 29 to October 5, and Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 8 to 14.
