A LOCAL man who pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing $30,000 in donation money had his sentencing adjourned to November 17 while the Bandar Magistrate’s Court considered the facts of the case yesterday.
Jushree Adee Putra bin Hj Julaihi, 33, stole $30,000 cash belonging to Brunei Darussalam Women’s Council at a house in Jerudong on or about October 26, 2012.
Facts of the case state that the defendant stole the money which was kept at the home by Women’s Council Vice-President 1 Datin Hjh Masni binte Hj Mohd Ali, who was the defendant’s mother-in-law at the time, in a “strong room” always kept locked and situated inside the master bedroom.
Datin Hjh Masni had kept the cash at home upon receipt of the donation money.
It was late and the next day was a public holiday.
On the morning of October 27, 2012, Datin Hjh Masni who intended to bank in the money found it missing from the “strong room” and the police was informed.
In police investigations and assistance from other agencies, it was found that the defendant had checked into a hotel in Berakas to change the stolen money into smaller denominations, and was identified as a suspect.
Earlier during the course of theft, the defendant had taken the key to the “strong room” and placed it back in its original place.
He then hid $20, 000 in an envelope on the stairs of the family home, and spent $10, 000.
The recovered money was handed back to Datin Hjh Masni who had deposited it into the Women’s Council account and covered the shortfall of $10, 000 with her own savings, the Court was told.
