THE Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday jailed a local man for two years after he pleaded guilty to four charges of auto theft.
Jaffry bin Mohammad Daud, 28, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Hajah Ervy Rahman to the first count of stealing a Suzuki Swift outside Mahmoon Department Store in Lumut, Kuala Belait, at about 9.35pm on October 17.
Realising the car owner had entered a shop and left the engine running, the defendant got into the vehicle and drove off.
The second count stated the defendant stole a Yamaha X1-R outside a house at Kampong Mulaut in Jalan Mulaut/Tanjong Nangka on October 19. The defendant had transported the motorbike away in a car he was riding in with his friends.
The third count stated the defendant had stolen a Mitsubishi Colt outside Yasmin Azima Mini Mart in Kampong Kupang at about 3.30pm on October 24. Again, he had driven off with the car after realising the owner had gone to a shop and left the engine running.
The fourth count stated that the defendant stole a Hyundai H1 from a house at RPN Kampong Mentiri at about 5am on October 27.
The defendant had heard the car engine being started and saw the owner going back into the house. He pounced on the opportunity and drove off with the car.
DPP was Danial Kifrawi.
