A LOCAL employer who failed to pay 38 months in wages to his domestic helper was yesterday produced in court.
Sahari bin Yanam pleaded guilty to 38 charges, each of which involved failing to pay wages to the Indonesian domestic helper.
Magistrate Azrimah Rahman will pass sentence on November 20. Magistrate Azrimah also released the defendant on court bail of $3,000 or in one local surety pending sentencing.
The defendant is facing a penalty of a $1,500 fine or to serve six months imprisonment in default on each charge.
The Labour Department reminds the public of the strict enforcement of non-payment of wages by employers who will be liable to prosecution.
