THE official opening of the 11th session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Meeting is set to be held at the Department of Councils of State on March 5.
As with previous years, following the opening, the LegCo session will start the next day or on a date to be announced by the Speaker of the Legislative Council.
The meeting will be chaired by LegCo Speaker YB Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, who will be assisted by LegCo Clerk 1 (First) Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar.
The session will be open to the public. Government and private schools as well as other educational institutions keen on receiving exposure on the guidelines to discussing bills in Brunei Darussalam are also welcome. Educational institutions interested in conducting study tours to witness the LegCo session can contact the Secretariat at 2380501, 2381503 or 2381610 for further details.
Other parties keen on attending the LegCo sessions are required to bring their identity card to be exchanged for a security pass before entering the building. The same applies for officers.
The session typically runs from 9am to 12 noon and again from 2pm to 4.30pm.
A dress code needs to be abided by. Men are required to wear long-sleeves, neck tie and a ‘songkok’ or an MIB shirt, Malay national attire with a ‘sinjang’ and a ‘songkok.’ Women are required to wear Baju Kurong. Additionally, a lounge suit can also be used.
Caps, short sleeves, T-shirt, sports shirt, jeans, shorts, sports shorts, short skirt, leggings, sandals and slippers are not allowed.
Students should wear their respective school uniform, while undergraduates should dress smart with long sleeves for men and Baju Kurong and head scarf for women.
They should also abide by regulations in place when the session is ongoing.
