SOME 90 special education officers and teachers at the Islamic Education Department attended a two-day briefing on assessing and assisting hearing and visually-impaired students.
The briefing, which began yesterday at Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hasssanal Bolkiah, was facilitated by Dr Hajah Norbayah binti Haji Shahminan, Head of Support Services (Hearing Problem) of the Special Education Unit and Haji Roslan bin Haji Zulkifli, Head of Support Services (Visually Impaired).
The briefing touched on enhancing communication skills among teachers and students, highlighting the importance of sign language for deaf students as well as effective teaching strategies, such as using braille for visually impaired students.
The sharing session was also aimed at seeking alternative methods for helping special needs students.
