THE owner of Le Taj Indian Restaurant hosted 40 national hockey players along with officials from the Brunei Darussalam Hockey Association, at the restaurant in Kiulap, yesterday. A Doa Selamat was also held.
The invitees will be joining the Borneo Cup Championship in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Ang Bee Fong, the owner of Le Taj Indian Restaurant, presented jersey sponsorship to the President of Brunei Darussalam Hockey Association, Haji Jaman bin Haji Jamahat.
Vice-President of Brunei Darussalam Hockey Association, Pg Haji Hassan bin Pg Anak Hashim; National Hockey Coach, Saiful Azli bin Abdul Rahman and Referees Committee and Technical Experts, Jodiraja Arumugam, were also present.
Regarding the sponsorship, Ang Bee Fong said, the effort is one of her company’s social corporate responsibilities to raise the image of the national hockey squad in the international scene.
“Our efforts to contribute to the country’s sports activities began when a friend of mine who is also one of the national women’s hockey players, told me about the participation of the national squad in the Borneo Cup Championship and the sponsorship issues they face,” she said.
She said this led to an attempt to celebrate the squad with thanksgiving prayers, in hopes that the national team will receive blessings during the championship, after two years of hiatus.
Haji Jaman welcomed the efforts of Le Taj Indian Restaurant and hoped participation of the national team in the friendship hockey championship in Singapore after Borneo Cup Championship will help prepare the team for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Brunei Darussalam in 2019.
The contingent from Brunei Darussalam for Borneo Cup Championship 2014 will comprise 20 male and 20 female players accompanied by four officials and they will depart on December 14.
