LABUAN (Bernama) – The Federal Territories of State Farmers Organisation (PPNWP) has urged idle land owners in Labuan to come forward and register with the Agriculture Department for land development purposes.
Its chairman Datuk Yussof Mohammad said PPNWP the reluctance of land owners to develop their land for agriculture was the main factor Labuan was still relying on imported food items over the years.
“Owners with idle land in Labuan are reluctant to develop their land without good reason. The government has given assistance but receive poor response from the land owners,” he told Bernama yesterday.
He said PPNWP would continue efforts to trace owners of idle land for development purposes and hoped they would cooperate on the matter.
Agriculture director-general Datuk Ahmad Zakaria Mohamad Sidek was reported as saying said idle land owners could either develop the land themselves or rent it out to others.a
