THE Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Brunei Darussalam celebrated the 54th National Day of Kuwait last night at the The Empire Hotel & Country Club where the guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Education.
The Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Brunei Darussalam, Dr Fahad Mashary Al-Thafiri, said Kuwait and Brunei recently witnessed a huge leap in their relations, which included many formal bilateral visits.
“The most important was the successful visit of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, during which a proposal was made to establish a US$100 million Joint Investment Fund aimed to enhance joint investment and financial cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
He also mentioned successful state visits made by a delegation from Kuwait to the Sultanate to boost parliamentary diplomacy and the 2nd meeting of the Kuwait-Brunei Joint Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation to review cooperation in fields of economy, trade, investment, higher education, petroleum and IT, as well as the private sector.
“I am confident that 2015 will be a year of great accomplishments and active friendship between our two countries,” he said.
Earlier, the event began with the national anthems of Brunei Darussalam and the State of Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador and Pehin Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Abu Bakar together with Saleh Mohammed Al Nesef, Ambassador of Qatar to Brunei Darussalam; Sheikh Ahmed Hashel Rashed Al Maskari, Ambassador of Oman Brunei Darussalam; and Hisham bin Abdul Wahab, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Brunei Darussalam, cut a cake to commemorate the occasion.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador presented a souvenir to Pehin Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Abu Bakar.
Also present during the celebration were other members of the foreign diplomatic corps in Brunei Darussalam.
