THE 2nd Regional Islamic Education Debate Competition (PENDEPIS) 1436H/2015 will be conducted in conjunction with the 4th Convocation of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB).
During a press conference that was held yesterday at KUPU SB, Dr Haji Hambali bin Haji Jaili, Dean of Students in his capacity as the chairman of the competition, highlighted that the competition will be held in three stages, namely preliminary, semi-final and final round.
The preliminary round for the competition will be held on February 10 and the semi-final round on February 11 while the final round will be held on February 13 at Radio Televisyen Brunei.
“This year, the theme of the competition is ‘Towards Excellence in Islamic Education’ and will be participated by higher education institutions in Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand,” he said.
Dr Haji Hambali also mentioned, “The topics of the debate will be given during the competition with only 30 minutes of discussion among the participants and this is aimed to test on their ability to debate spontaneously.”
According to him, the objectives of the debate were to enhance understanding and perspective among the students on the issues related with Islamic education affairs and at the same time to give them the opportunity to bring forward brilliant arguments or points on the related issues.
Through the debate competition, it will help to extend the students’ ability in dealing with related matters and increase their awareness concerning the Islamic World as well as to create quality debaters and good performance among the students of higher education institutions as well as to strengthen the ties among regional higher education institutions.
The 2nd PENDEPIS is organised jointly by the Student Affairs Division of KUPU SB and Faculty of Education and in collaboration with Student Representative Council 2014/2015 of KUPU SB.
