THE Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) yesterday introduced and launched the Ma’rad Al-Kutub (Book Fair) KUPU SB and 17 new book issues at the Tarbiyyah Hall in conjunction with the college’s fourth convocation.
The launching was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom bin Pg Hj Bahar.
Among the books launched were ‘Islamic Education Strengthening the National Remembrance’, ‘Media Teaching in Islamic Education: An Evaluation’ and ‘Empowering Usuluddin Education: Current Issues and Challenges’ written by academics.
In her welcoming remarks, the Head of Publication at KUPU SB, Hjh Tiara binti Hj Basman, mentioned that “the launching of the latest books issued by KUPU SB is one of the annual activities organised by the Publication Centre… and this year, for the first time, it is followed by the launching and opening of the Book Fair”.
She then proceeded to highlight that the latest issues comprise seven books, two monographs, a journal, four proceedings, a special book issue and two new titles in a series – a guide to understanding the Sunnah Waljama’ah.
“Since 2008 until now, a total of 81 book titles have been published by the Centre of Publication of KUPU SB, and the success… (is) the result of the support and cooperation of the authors or writers within and outside of KUPU SB, as well as the administration and management,” she said.
Yesterday’s ceremony also saw video presentations followed by the presentation of souvenirs and certificates to the books’ writers by the guest of honour who toured the set-up booths.
The four-day book fair, which features a bazaar sale and will end on January 31, is participated by the Centre of Publication of KUPU SB; Islamic Dakwah Centre; Brunei Historic Centre; Syarikat Pustaka Remaja; Choice Mart bookstore; Seri Sikuna bookstore; Syarikat Pelita Win Jaya and the Student Representative Council of KUPU SB.
KUPU SB also aims, among others, to encourage and motivate its academic staff to be more active in research and writing, expose and promote its published books, and show appreciation for the writers and contributors.
