THE FIFA instructor from Malaysia, Lim Kim Chon, has commended Brunei’s football scene as extensive following his evaluation in March earlier this year.
The FIFA instructor who has over 20 years of experience in coach education, developing coaches around Asia is currently in the country to conduct the FIFA/NFABD Youth Coaching Course for five days.
“Football is not only played in the main city but also outskirts. Brunei has four districts and football is very popular in these districts,” Lim said.
“Football actually begins from grassroots level, parents, school, the Football Association and the Ministry of Education as well as Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. If all the stakeholders are involved, the game of football will flourish,” he added.
In Brunei, he said: “NFABD has done well and has met with various stakeholders painting a clear picture for the country. Coaches are also important at grassroots level. We are looking for potential coaches who can be pushed to the next level. ”
“Coaching is not only about obtaining a licence. It’s also about analysing the players and the match as well as planning the development of players,” Lim concluded.
