MEMBERS of the National Paddy Cooperative Limited (KPKB) recently paid the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, a courtesy call. The visiting delegation was led by Haji Osman bin Omar.
During the visit, the delegation and the minister discussed the future of locally-produced paddy after the introduction of ‘Beras Laila’ at Kampong Wasan in the Brunei-Muara District.
The introduction of ‘Beras Laila’ received encouraging support from the public, especially retired government officers who were also part of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
They also discussed inviting youth with interest in agriculture to give planting paddy a try and the possibility of expanding the local paddy fields to the Tutong, Belait and Temburong districts so that Brunei may be less dependent on imported rice.
The visit also saw the presentation of the cooperative’s ‘Resolution Book’ to the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources.
