LH, A leading Korean company, has expressed keen interest in collaborating to develop a technology park in Brunei Darussalam.
A delegation of Korean companies, namely LH, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting and KnowledgeWorks Co Ltd, was in Brunei Darussalam recently on a fact-finding mission.
LH’s General Manager of Overseas Project Department, Ju Mingon, said in an interview with the Sunday Bulletin, “We have submitted our expression of interest to Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) for providing services to the Technology Park located in Anggerek Desa.”
He said, “LH is a well-established Korean company that has provided land and housing for the Korean people. LH not only provides citizens’ housing and efficiently manages their land, but also contributes to the nation’s economic development and competitiveness.”
Ju Mingon revealed that for Brunei’s Technology Park they will work with Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting and KnowledgeWorks Co Ltd.
David Lee, Vice-President of Overseas Project Development at Kunhwa Engineering, said, “We provide a wide range of engineering services and the main fields of our activities include road and transportation engineering, water supply and wastewater disposal, river engineering and water resource development, dam and hydropower development, harbour and coastal engineering, urban and regional planning as well as other related works.”
Chulwon Lee, CEO of KnowledgeWorks, explained that his company is a leading South Korean consulting firm which specialises in technology management with over 15 years of consulting experience.
Ju Mingon said, “We feel that there is a vast potential for collaboration with the Government of His Majesty and our personnel are qualified to help develop the Technology Park in Brunei because since 1995, we have been helping Korea to develop its technology park.”
David Lee said, “Recently, we have accomplished a number of successes and we are trying to globalise and cooperate with countries like Brunei to share our technological experience for mutual benefits.”
He revealed that Korea has also set up the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology and is drafting the master plan for Vietnam Technology Park.
As it is in the initial stage (talks on the Technology Park), he said, “we will need further discussions on collaboration with the Brunei government.”
LH is also interested to participate in Brunei’s National Housing Scheme and hopes to propose the best design for the Sultanate.
