BRUNEI Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd, through the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC), has set its sights on rousing public interest in science, innovation and technology as it brings its interactive science exhibition to the Knowledge Convention this year, scheduled to run from October 28 to November 4 at the International Convention Centre (ICC).
This year carries the theme ‘Science & Technology: Catalyst of Development and Enhancing the Ummah’s Quality of Life.’
In line with this, OGDC will be showcasing its ‘Playing with Light’ exhibition and conducting science outreach activities (‘Siuknya Sains’) at the event, which will be hosted by the Ministry of Development.
Held annually in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s birthday celebrations, the event will be open to the public and entry is free.
Playing with Light will educate visitors on the importance and creative uses of light-related technology in our daily lives.
The exhibition is an excellent tool for promoting science and technology as it covers various topics that correlate physics in the study of fibre optics, and ICT in terms of programming and their applications in the real world.
Through this, the OGDC is able to provide the community with the opportunity to experience, learn, play and interact with world-class exhibits.
Meanwhile, ‘Siuknya Sains’ will feature various science shows and fun, hands-on science activities specifically for the young. The scheduled science shows include ‘Hands on Fire’, ‘Pressure Show’ and ‘Magic of Liquid Nitrogen.’ There will also be mini competitions and exciting prizes are up for grabs.
The convention will give the community a clearer picture of what the OGDC does. As the only dedicated science centre in Brunei, it will continue to promote science, technology and innovation to support Brunei’s vision of becoming an innovative and progressive nation.
