THE Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia, with support from Malaysian Communications and Multi-media Commission (MCMC), yesterday welcomed the Brunei delegation to ‘KL Converge!’ an event that allows the Sultanate to showcase its creative industry on a platform that provides maximum exposure to global content buyers and digital lifestyle businesses.
The opening ceremony yesterday saw Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Dato Hj Muhyiddin bin Hj Mohd Yassin as guest of honour.
After the opening ceremony and a ministerial tour of the exhibition, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Awg Haji Mohd Yunos and Ministry of Communications officials were introduced to participants at the Brunei Darussalam Pavilion by AITI Chief Executive Hj Yahkup bin Hj Menudin.
The Brunei Darussalam Pavilion, organised by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), plays host to displays by Origin Films Sdn Bhd, Regal Blue Productions, Itsybytes Company, Ambuyart Animations and MegaBond Productions together with trade visitors from the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), Kristal Media Sdn Bhd, Progressif Cellular Sdn Bhd, Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) and Shazana’s Production House. This furthers AITI’s mandate of growing the local creative industry through exposure at global platforms.
The ministerial programme for KL Converge! also saw the ministers and ministerial representatives yesterday attending a GSMA Asia Policy Forum themed ‘A More Connected and Vibrant Mobile Ecosystem in Asia.’
The forum recognised that mobile broadband networks and applications form the backbone of the Internet economy and discussed challenges related to deployment of mobile broadband networks, and strategies to creating an open competitive environment as a basis for innovation.
Speakers and panellists at the forum observed that collaboration between governments, the private sector and citizens is key to the success of these strategies.
KL Converge! is the result of Malaysia’s commitment under the Asean ICT Master Plan 2015 where an Asean Digital Content Exchange was envisioned to be a key platform to promote and facilitate the exchange of content for Asean and other regional players.
KL Converge! is being held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) in Kuala Lumpur until September 19.
