PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) – More than 200 ethnic minority Khmer Krom monks and activists in Cambodia on Sunday continued burning Vietnamese flags on the second day of a fresh protest against a Vietnamese diplomat.
The protesters are rallying outside the Vietnamese embassy, which is fortified by riot police and heavy steel barricades.
Some of the protesters set Vietnamese flags on fire, marking the third time the group burned the flags in a series of protests that began in August.
The protest, expected to last until Wednesday, is to demand a Vietnamese diplomat to recognize that Kampuchea Krom, which is now a part of Vietnam, is Cambodia’s former territory.
There is no report of clashes between the police and protesters even though the protesters gather without permission from the Phnom Penh Municipality.
