IN CONJUNCTION with Brunei’s 31st National Day, over 3,000 local youths participated in a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony yesterday. The religious event was held at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah for male participants and at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque for female participants.
Present as the guest of honour at the Jame’ ‘Asr’ Hassanil Bolkiah was Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also in attendance were Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS); Haji Mohd Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abdul Samad, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MCYS; and members of the organising committee.
At the SOAS Mosque, the guest of honour was Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The event began with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Haji Muhd Ruzaimi bin Haji Mohamad at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah and by Dayang Norliza binti Abdul Jalil at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque. Both of them are the Head of Tasmie’ from the Department of Islamic Education (JPI).
The ceremony at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah continued with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and Takhtim led by the Tasmie’ participants.
Afterwards, a Doa Khatam was recited by Pengiran Md Fakhrulrazi bin Pengiran Haji Omarali, a religious teacher from JPI. A Doa Selamat was also recited by Mudim Haji Abdul Latif bin Haji Saman, Mosque Affairs Officer.
At the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony continued with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran led by the Tasmie’ participants, which was followed by the recitation of Doa Khatam by Dayang Noorsabariah binti Haji Meraji, a religious teacher from JPI. A Dikir Marhaban was then recited followed by the reading of Doa Selamat by Dayang Mariam binti Haji Marsidi, a religious teacher from JPI.
The annual religious ceremony was aimed at enhancing the youth’s understanding of the importance of reading and appreciating the Holy Quran and encouraging their participation in religious activities.
