SOME 25 participants of a ‘Seni Khat Jawi’ workshop yesterday received certificates from the Director of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin, at a closing ceremony held at the bureau’s Balai Sarmayuda Hall, in Berakas.
The two-week workshop, which was divided into two modules, was facilitated by local instructors and guests invited from Indonesia.
The workshop aimed to give participants the ability to produce high quality art and learn how to combine traditional and contemporary styles to boost creativity. It was also meant to attract the public through an exhibition and demonstration.
The workshop facilitators were Ustaz Ahmad Syafii bin Hadi Muhtasin from the Al-Quran Calligraphy Board of Indonesia and Haji Mahadi bin Haji Md Zain from the DBP.
On behalf of the participants, an elected representative in his speech urged the DBP to continue holding similar workshops in the future so that local Khat writers can become good enough that they may become recognised regionally and further abroad.
