KG KILANAS and Kg Jangsak yesterday honoured two of their oldest senior citizens. The event was attended by Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman.
A Doa Selamat was held to mark the 68th birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and honour senior citizens in Kg Kilanas and Kg Jangsak.
It was held at the Mukim Kilanas Community Hall.
The oldest male citizen is Hj Durahim bin Jaafar, 94, from Kg Jangsak. He has five children, 29 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.
He is still active and plants vegetables and tapioca, recites Al-Quran and is a former staff of the Brunei-Muara District Office.
His past activities include rubber tapping, vegetables, fruits and padi planting as well as mousedeer and bird trappings.
Meanwhile Dyg Hjh Hitam @ Sitam binti Kamis, 89, is from Jln Ban 3 in Kg Kilanas and has five children. She is still active and previously she sold local delicacies at the local tamu in the capital.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi bin Hj Md Yussof; Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Awg Hj Ismail bin Haji Abd Manaf; Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at MoHA, Awg Yahya bin Hj Abdul Rahman; Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Mohd Sunadi bin Hj Buntar, the village community as well as senior citizens.
The ceremony was organised by the Kg Kilanas Consultative Council members to forge closer ties and cooperation among the village residents as well as appreciate the senior citizens in the village.
The gathering also saw a poetry presentation by Deputy Chairperson of the village consultative council, Hj Musa bin Hj Mantok.
The minister also presented souvenirs to Awg Hj Durahim and Dyg Hjh Hitam.
