DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean and two DPMM FC players have been nominated for the 2014 S League Awards Night.
Kean will be up against Warriors FC’s head coach Alex Weaver and Marko Kraljevic of Balestier Khalsa for the RHB Coach of the Year award. Marko also has the RHB Singapore Cup final to look forward to tonight.
Rodrigo Tosi has the chance to add to his RHB Top Scorer Award with the Great Eastern Player of the Year gong. Tosi has been nominated along with Fazrul Nawaz of Home United FC, Kazuki Sakamoto of Albirex Niigata (S), Hassan Sunny (Warriors FC) and Goran Ljubojevic (Balestier Khalsa).
The Yeo’s Young Player of the Year nominees include DPMM FC’s Azwan Ali, Sahil Suhaimi of Courts Young Lions and the Warriors duo of Nicolas Velez and Suria Prakash.
Meanwhile, Kean said that his team’s 2-1 victory at the 3rd place match of the RHB Singapore Cup finally laid to rest the mentality of never having to beat Tampines Rovers during a post-match reaction on Wednesday.
“I’m glad that we’ve won tonight because it takes the psychological aspect off it,” Kean told S League.
Kean would have liked to fare a little bit better but hailed his squad’s improvement compared to the previous season in 2013.
“When you take the emotions out and you sit and look last year and where we finished this year, it has been a good solid season,” Kean added.
Tampines’s head coach Rafi Ali said that games cannot be won if they do not score.
“We cannot sit on our 1-0 lead and try to win the game. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it does not happen,” Rafi said.
“DPMM FC is a kind of team that will not stop running and with hard work they got the goal.”
Rafi also heaped praise on Aleksandar Duric who retired from professional career at the end of the game.
“We tried to give the player (Duric) a very good send-off and put him for 90 minutes. Duric has done a great job and contributed to our Singapore football,” Rafi added.
