NINE people were injured after a structure which is a part of the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (Maktab Sains) project due to be completed next year partially collapsed last night.
At 7.37pm yesterday, the Fire and Rescue Department received a call from the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital regarding the incident.
According to Zulkeflee bin Awg Alimas, the Assistant Superintendent of the Kuala Belait Fire Station, two firetrucks and 12 personnel led by Abd Azis bin Hj Mohd, the Commanding Officer of Company ‘B’ Belait District, were immediately dispatched. Medical and police personnel were also at the scene.
Fire and Rescue personnel removed some of the fallen structure (see photo below) to ensure that no one was left trapped under the debris. All workers at the site were accounted for.
Out of the 124 people, nine were found with injuries to their legs, fingers and arms. They were admitted to Suri Seri Begawan Hospital for further treatment.
At press time, the cause of the incident was still under investigation.
