KASUKA FC will meet Ministry of Development (MoD) in the third round of the VFA FA Cup after successfully negotiating an affair with MBS United FC in a 4-1 victory at the Menglait Sports Complex yesterday.
The result essentially means that all of the third round fixtures are now confirmed with a place in the quarterfinals to play for.
Under the guidance and coaching acumen of former national heroes with the likes of Rosanan Samak and Haji Rosaidi, MoD could be a nightmare draw if the players abide by their instructions and get the ministerial team in sync.
Kasuka’s third round opponents showed signs of keeping tabs with the dominant powers of the country’s veteran football after frustrating reigning VFA FA Cup holders Al Idrus in a stalemate in the DST National Football Veteran President’s Cup at the RB Sports Complex.
There was nothing the assistant coaches could do when a perfectly lofted ball found the feet of an Al Idrusplayer of which gave the platform to whizz past a defender.
They could only hope that a late winner from a simple route would not determine the outcome of the match after holding them off for so long and reaching very near to the finishing line.
There was nothing wrong with the touch and movement but Al Idrus’s No 10 dismissed his shooting boots at the moment of truth when he overdid an attempt to the far bottom corner.
That was to be the final opportunity for Al Idrus as MoD looked the happier of the two sides.
Turning attention to the VFA FA Cup, Kasuka became the final team to advance to the last 16 following a brace each by Ja’afaruddin Hj Muhamad and Pg Sabtu Pg Hj Yussof.
Even a consolation for MBS courtesy of Mohd Mohini Hj Othman could not conceal the disappointment of a cup exit.
Meanwhile in the President’s Cup, a Mohd Kamransah hat- trick inspired Jerudong FC to a 4-1 win against Mangelella M.S at the Seria Sports Complex.
In the same competition, Awang Jaya Taha’s solitary goal in the 50th minute was enough to present Kilugus FC a 1-0 win over Mix FT at the Tutong Sports Complex.
