THE Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) yesterday held a prize and certificate presentation ceremony for an Essay Writing Competition and a Smiling Contest at KACA’s headquarters in Kiulap.
President of KACA, Dato Paduka Haji Zainal bin Haji Momin, presented the prizes and certificates.
The Smiling Contest was held as KACA’s annual project and in commemoration with the World Children’s Day celebration. A total of 64 participants joined the competition including children from the centre as well as their parents, guardians and volunteers.
The winner of the Smiling Contest for KACA’s children was won by Dayang Shrylin Zafenya binti Wedy Arwenddy. Second place was won by Mohd Aslam Hassan while third place went to Md Badri Shah Maszlan.
As for the parents, guardians and volunteers category, the winners were Dyg Tuah Haji Tuah, Rohani Haji Masri and Norfaizah Haji Awg Mahli.
The Essay Writing Competition was aimed at encouraging school students to express their creativity in describing given topics and inculcate a sense of care, concerns, love and empathy towards special needs children.
Held in conjunction with the 28th anniversary of KACA establishment (1986-2014), the competition was participated by 11 primary schools.
It was divided into Category A for Year 4 and Category B for Years 5 and 6.
Among the topics given were “My Visually Impaired Friend”, “Helping My Hearing Impaired Friend in Mathematics” and “Helping My Wheelchair Friend in Sports”.
The first prize was won by Ameerah Najwa Haji Redzuan from Seri Mulia Sarjana School, while the first and second spots went to Pulaie Primary School pupils Aina’ Aqillah bin Awang Besar and Nurin Aina Nazuah Haji Rahman respectively.
