TELUK INTAN (Bernama) – The Civil Defence Department (JPAM) has mobilised 11,800 personnel to tackle floods in several states, said its director-general Datuk Zaitun Ab Samad,
She said JPAM had 300,400 officers and men for follow-up operations on a longer term if required.
“JPAM personnel are always ready with assets and equipment for any flood relief operations and the flood situation is being monitored for any contingencies.
“We can spring into action in just three hours as in previous years,” she said.
She was speaking to reporters after visiting a flood evacuation centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Jong here yesterday.
Zaitun said JPAM had received 90 ambulances from the government to attend to emergencies during flood.
“We have also acquired several boats which will be distributed to all states, with priority to places frequently affected by floods,” she said.
In Perak, floods have occurred in Changkat Jong twice after Sungai Bidor bursts its banks and water overflowed into residential areas.
