THE Youth and Sports Department (JBS) 4WD Club was officially launched yesterday morning at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
Haji Abdul Malik bin Haji Mohammad, Director of Youth and Sports, officially launched the club and presented letters of appointment to its committee members.
The ceremony started with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by the opening remarks by the head of the club, Awang Azmi bin Haji Gharif.
Haji Abdul Malik, in his speech, said, “The formation of the club was inspired by (the club members’) involvement in the deliveries of relief goods to flood victims in Ulu Tutong in 2013.
“The club has done a lot of humanitarian and leisure activities, such as delivering aid to the poor in all four districts during Ramadhan and organising 4×4 trips to rural areas.”
“The main aim of the club is to help in the delivery of humanitarian aid organised by the Training and Resources Centre of the Youth and Sports Department, and provide manpower to assist in natural disasters.”
“We will be providing courses in handling 4×4 vehicles, first aid programmes and other courses,” Haji Abdul Malik added.
The event also saw the departure of a national flag 4×4 convoy in conjunction with the upcoming National Day celebrations.
Haji Abdul Malik presented the national flag to Haji Ramli bin Haji Kurus, Assistant Senior Officer at the Training and Resources Centre Unit, Youth and Sports Department before flagging off the convoy.
The convoy headed to Kampong Subok in Brunei-Muara District, Kampong Lamunin and a longhouse in Kampong Supon in the Tutong District and will end it journey at a longhouse in Kampong Teraja in the Belait District.
The convoy’s members will raise the national flag, sing the national anthem and distribute mini national flags to the public at each destination.
