A BI-MONTHLY car boot sale event at Serasa Beach will be organised by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) of the Ministry of Development (MoD) beginning the end of this month in its drive to educate the public on the culture of selling second-hand goods to avoid wastage.
In a press conference yesterday, Director of JASTRe, Haji Rahmad bin Haji Japar told the media that the car boot sale will be held every second and fourth Sunday of the month, beginning November 30 from 6am to 6pm.
“We are giving opportunity to the local community at Serasa Beach and the public at large who wish to sell necessities of good quality and various second-hand items that are still in good condition,” he said, while adding that it will help boost the economy of the local community.
The director said they would also like to spread the awareness of the value of second-hand items, to avoid the habit of wasting because he said items that are still in good condition and in order can be still be utilised by those who need them at a low price, apart from the sale of other items such as food and beverages.
He added that this will also help in inculcating a more organised and safe vending system, as vendors need to register to make use one of the 32 plots available with a low rental price of $2 for 12 hours.
Norlida Suhailee, Environment Officer at MoD, also explained that vendors are prohibited from selling live animals (either pets or wild animals), raw food items such as chicken, beef, seafood and others as well as goods that are prohibited by the country’s law.
Interested applicants are required to fill a form that can be obtained from JASTRe’s officer at Second Floor, Tumasek Plaza Building, Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha, a week prior to each car boot sale event.
Haji Rahmad said he hopes to see good response from the Serasa Beach community and the public at large and hopes to see cooperation from vendors in maintaining cleanliness of the car boot sale site.
Also present at the press conference held at the Dewan Bertabur, MoD building in Berakas were Senior Landscaping Officer at MoD, Aliman Haji Ahmad, and Acting Senior Public Relations Officer at MoD, Pengiran Datin Norliha binti PSI Pengiran Haji Ismail.
