SOME 20 volunteers of the Volunteer Unit under the Community Development Department (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), yesterday participated in the fourth ‘Sentuhan Kasih Programme’ which took place at the home of Tang Siak Nang, an underprivileged elderly in the Belait District.
The activity began with a cleaning campaign at the house of Tang Siak Nang, also the recipient of the Monthly Welfare Aid from JAPEM.
Qistina Murad, a Community Development Officer of the Counseling Divison of JAPEM. who was present at the campaign explained about the programme.
She said, “This Sentuhan Kasih Programme is an initiative of JAPEM Volunteer Unit which offers continuous charitable help to the clients of JAPEM (the less fortunate) and this is the first time it is organised outside the Brunei-Muara District.”
She further said that the programme comprises two parts; a cleaning campaign at the house of the recipient, and an aftercare plan where volunteers will do a follow-up visit to the house in the future.
She added that those who wish to join the voluntary activity can do so by visiting the Facebook page ‘Sukarelawan JAPEM’ to find out the latest updates on the ongoing activities.
Potential volunteers can leave a message on the page expressing their interest in participating and providing their contact details. JAPEM will then contact them to inform about upcoming activities.
JAPEM is looking at the possibility of holding another similar activity in December in Tutong District.
