THE Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) will be organising the ‘Japanese Cultural Week’ at the Student Centre, UBD from March 19-22. The four-day event is supported by the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association (BJFA)-UBD Chapter, the Japan Foundation, Japan-Brunei Friendship Association (JBFA), the Japan Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) and Brunei Association of Japan Alumni (BAJA).
The event will showcase the Japanese traditional and contemporary culture as well as lifestyle and tourism information. There will be live demonstrations and exhibition booths including Kendama (Japanese traditional cup-and-ball game), Ikebana (Japanese traditional flower arrangement), Japanese cooking, Origami (paper folding), Mobile Suit Gundam Plamodel, Manga contest, Algorithm March and others.
The Kendama workshop will feature a top Japanese Kendama performer, 10-time champion in Japan and two-time Guinness World Record holder. Meanwhile, the Ikebana demonstration will feature a distinguished Ikebana master, who is a member of the Sogetsu Teachers Association and a Sogetsu Yamaguchi Branch Master.
The BJFA-UBD Chapter will set up booths where visitors can dress up in Yukata (Japanese summer kimono), enjoy Japanese traditional and contemporary sports and games as well as Japanese Calligraphy among others.
