JAGUAR Land Rover (JLR), well-known British car makers, recently stole the spotlight at the Paris Motor Show, one of the most popular auto expos in the world, by officially launching the much-awaited sport saloon Jaguar XE and the all-new Land Rover Discovery Sport.
The new Jaguar XE, which is expected to hit the Brunei Darussalam market by next year, has redefined the concept of sports saloon and it’s the driver’s car in its class. Its light-weight construction, streamlined styling, luxurious interior and outstanding ride and handling are testament to the company’s founder Sir William Lyon’s vision of “the car is the closest thing we will ever create to something that is alive”.
At the launch of the Jaguar XE, Ian Cullum, the Director of Design at Jaguar, said, “The new design of the XE understandably prioritises on adding value for our customers.”
“Describing the new XE, he said, “The interior is very jaguar in both architecture and simplicity with a strong feature line, giving a sense of space and fascination. The controls are distinctive and drivers can use them with pleasure.
“We deign the XE with the complete understanding of the customers to create the right car at the right time – a true sport saloon, balanced and precise in every way.”
He revealed that Jaguar “invented the sport saloon over 50 years ago and now we are truly back”.
The launch of the new Discovery Sport is a pivotal moment for Land Rover as it’s the first member of the Discovery family and it also brings the versatility of a 5+2 seating to the premium compact SUV segment.
Land Rover is already an established brand for on and off road vehicles and the new Discovery Sport brings both state-of-the-art engineering and innovative technology together.
Gerry McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, in his speech during the launch of the Discovery Sports at the Paris Motor Show said “the new Discovery Sport is deigned and engineered as the most capable and versatile premium compact SUV”.
“This is a vehicle that will have an emotional appeal with existing customers and potentially a whole new group of people who have never considered Land Rover before,” he added.
According to him, the new Discovery Sport is not a replacement for the Land Rover Discovery.
“The Discover Sport’s greatest design challenge is to create universal appeal, while still maintaining Land Rover values. The new Discovery has a unique character of its own; it also possesses the heritage of Land Rover,” McGovern said.
He revealed that Paris is a global debut, however, since we released pictures of the Discovery Sport a few weeks ago, we have already received more than 1,200 customers ‘orders and that is before anyone has stepped behind the wheel. This is a true endorsement that the Discovery Sport is a highly desirable premium compact SUV.
Some of the ground-breaking vehicles that were unveiled at the Paris Motor Show include the new Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 concept, Mazda MX-5, Ferrari 458 Speciale Spider, BMW i3, Lexus RCF, the Mini Superleggera Vision Concept and many others.
At the launch, the global media also watched the highlights showing the success of the Invictus Games London 2014, an international paralympic-style multi-sport event in which wounded soldiers take part in sports events, presented by Jaguar Land Rover.
